AN AMAZING CHART (In My Humble Opinion)

This chart was constructed while doing my usual daily investigating for my daughter's investments.

The symmetry is, to my mind, nothing less than awesome. Here we see the S&P 500 (a far more reliable indicator of what's happening in paper than the heavily biased DJI) plotted against First Eagle Gold Fund. The blue line is the 200 day moving average. Defying all traditional rational analysis and interpretation, the fund's price is rising in a rising stock market! What's going on?

Keep in mind that Morningstar has rated First Eagle Gold the fund with the best returns over the past five years, out of 2500 funds they surveyed. Obviously there is powerful management and shrewd investing here, for those kinds of returns. To put a little icing on the cake, this fund, along with RoyalGold, pays a dividend! No wonder I had my daughter buy heavily into both!

But aside from that, to the best of my memory, I have never seen such symmetry in the more than twenty-five years I've been charting. Not just for what it's telling me about emotions, markets, expectations, and greed, but the fact that we are looking at instruments that are considered to move for opposing reasons--which explains the mirrored swellings in both courses--but now look carefully at the tail-end of the lines.

The gold is rising to parallel the equities market! I've looked at a lot of linear entrails over the years, but this is a doozy!! If this isn't an accurate BUY ME NOW sign, can you tell me what is? It may be that we are close to the blow off point where reason flees before fear, as we saw when gold ran up to US$850.00. Do you remember? I know I'll never forget the TV news in Canada showing people queued three blocks long in the rain to buy gold as soon as the banks opened.

Another three weeks of this kind of action and I say all bets are off: every silver and gold stock--from the best to the worst--will be snapped up faster than you can say "Damn! The dollar's down again!!"
