John Mackenzie asked the
Investors Exchange forum "Do we deserve to survive?"
This question really bothered me. The obvious selfish answer
was "YES." But
that was not what was troubling me. What point is it to survive
in a world filled with such total pain and agony (Just picture
the US unable to import from abroad, >50% unemployed, massive
starvation and hunger, that could be where we are headed in a
not too distant future. Watch the dollar for clues). A better
questions is "Should we work to save civilization?"
(That is a weighty question).
"Everyone carries a part
of society on his shoulders; no one is relieved of his share
of responsibility by others. And no one can find a safe way out
for himself if society is sweeping towards destruction. Therefore
everyone, in his own interests, must thrust himself vigorously
into the intellectual battle. None can stand aside with unconcern;
the interests of everyone hang on the result. Whether he chooses
or not, every man is drawn into the great historical struggle,
the decisive battle into which our epoch has plunged us."
-Ludwig von Mises
My grandfather was a Mennonite
immigrant, and I spent a lot of summers with him on the farm.
His two big tenets in life were "Do unto others as you would
have others do unto you" (the golden rule) and "an
honest days pay for an honest days work." Before arriving to America looking for
a better life, the pastor of his colony ran off with the money
sent ahead. Here he was in a foreign country, a German immigrant,
no English, no job, no money. He took it upon himself and found
jobs as a migrant farm worker (doing the jobs no one else was
willing to do). After several years he eventually met my grandmother
who quit school at age 12 to take care of her siblings after
my great-grandmother died of the Spanish flu. These folks are
the spirit of America's past (who took accountability for their
actions and are heroes in my eyes).
99% of Americans have lost that spirit. In the corporate world
the golden rule is a sure fire way not to advance. Too many citizens
are now looking for the free ride. They ask what's in it for
me? They shout "I deserve it!" (I paid into this system
therefore I should receive this, a.k.a. the PONZI corruption)
or "I NEED this" (because Mr. Hardwork has it and it
is not fair that I can not afford it). They create many new rights
(retirement, social security, a new car, to name a few) to justify
their own greed and impose their will on others. People would
rather go on welfare, than accept globally acceptable
pay wages. THEY WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO SAVE THEM. This is a total
lack of accountability.
The US standard of living would not be so distortedly high
if the world had stuck to a gold back currency. The rule of the
mean will enact its vengeance. In addition, the Chinese and Indian
standards of living should not have been so low
(thank socialism). The rule of the mean will grant its
mercy. This is the real issue to wage growth and the American
economy. If we want to maintain our standard of living we have
to figure out fast, how to create a trade surplus and become
energy self sufficient. (I am looking for this to occur when
the world forces it upon us).
Current politicians blame new immigrants for our troubles, for
putting a burden on our health care and social systems. Let's
be honest with ourselves, the new immigrants are doing jobs that
US citizens do not want to perform. There would be no burden
if we had not drunk the big government cool-aid and made it mandatory
to accept from the govt.
If you have not read the book "How the Irish Saved Civilization,"
you should. We are reaching a
point where the overall society can fail and this book is relevant.
The book is mostly about St. Patrick and the monks he inspired
who saved as many books they could find from the collapse of
the Roman Empire. If it was not for them, many of the great works
would have been lost. Who knows if the renaissance would have
started without the material preserved by their unselfish acts
centuries later.
William Wallace did not want to start a war with the English.
But it became necessary for his freedom, his family's
freedom, and his country's freedom. He gave the ultimate
sacrifice, his life to try and free his people. With his death,
he inspired Scotland to become free. He took accountability for
his actions and improved the country he lived in.
You are a slave to the government if you accept anything from
the government (Social Security, welfare, favorite tax legislation,
biased regulations, etc). You become beholden to the
government, what the government gives the government can take
away. The government was supposed to be "By the
people for the people." Now
we have "Government for the people, by the government."
With your money and the government's
ideas/ programs the world will become a utopia (at least for
government officials, the rest of us will be reduced to peasants).
Some readers suggest that mentioning to change the system will
bring it to an end. That we should work within the system.
I make this analogous to working within the slave system
for better treatment. There is no real freedom. You will always
be at the mercy of the masters. SAY NO, take back your freedom.
So I have decided, that instead of just protecting myself and
family, I am going to try and raise the awareness of people around
me. As time goes by, we lose the ability to be patient.
We need some tough love, and we must dismantle the bloated unconstitutional
government, and go back to our roots, to the constitution.
Or the direct and to the point:
"We have an obligation to one another." -John Mackenzie
Take accountability for yourself and your family by purchasing
some real money, physical gold and silver. Get out of debt, at
a minimum get out of variable interest loans. Develop a network
of like-minded individuals. Make a plan (As a good friend
always told me "Failing to plan is Planning for failure.")
